  We got a little snow out of the Thursdays cold change, but not enough to change conditions. It is very bare below 2000m and not a great deal above that. All eyes are on the long range forecast with fingers and toes crossed.

No recent avalanche activity reported. Light winds, morning frosts. Freezing level about 1500m. Any older snow will be hard, with a skiff of powder on top. Ice axe and crampons will be essential if your heading high and you encounter snow.

Very marginal early season conditions throughout the Ohau range with shallow snowcover limited to S or E facing slopes above around 2000m with little or no snow below. A few centimetres have fallen to low elevations with the cold southerly that spread up the country late last week
