Active Avalanche Problems
A Size 1 Wind Slab was skier triggered by Mt Hutt Patrol on Saturday morning. This was on a SE aspect at 1800m. Up to 15cm of snow is forecast as a fast-moving SW front passes through on Sunday. FAFL initially 600m but rises to 1300m as skies clear. Crampons and an ice axe are a good idea for backcountry travel in the spring!
Recent snowfall saw significant warming throughout Saturday. There is little layering of note, other than melt forms across the Northerly 1/2. The Southerly 1/2 has multiple buried crust layers that remain intact but is otherwise entirely melt forms. Overall, a very well-consolidated snowpack.
