Active Avalanche Problems

Wet Snow
Wet Snow
Treeline and above

Wet avalanches are primarily expected in steep, sun-exposed areas. Thin wind slab layers can also occur, especially on the upper mountain tundra where the snow is cold. Warning signs include sinking into the snow or seeing cracks or slabs. In steep terrain, you should therefore be alert to both wet avalanches and dry wind slab layers. Reduce the risk by choosing gentler slopes. Also avoid being near cornices.

Small avalanches in isolated locations or in extreme terrain.
