Snow meteorological report for the period 01.06.2026 at 21:00 - 04.06.2026 at 21:00 SOUTHERN CARPATHIANS: at over 2000 m in the Făgăraș and Bucegi massifs In the Făgăraș and Bucegi massifs at over 2000 m, the snowpack will continue to melt rapidly due to positive temperatures and significant rainfall. The snow is moist throughout the entire layer and exhibits isothermality. Inside, we find exclusively rounded crystals, characteristic of melting snow, and locally areas with relatively reduced resistance and cohesion compared to the layers near the ground. On some valleys of the northern or shaded slopes, there are more substantial deposits, locally over 100-150 cm. In particular, at altitudes over 2200 m, in limited areas, the moist snow may slide over more solidified zones, generating flow or isolated melting avalanches; in exceptional cases, the entire layer, up to the ground, may be involved, with the risk of triggering increased by overloading. WEATHER EVOLUTION IN RECENT DAYS In the previous period, the weather warmed and was temporarily unstable on the last day of May, when there were temporary clouds and local moderate rain showers and electrical discharges. Temperatures were predominantly positive, slightly negative on the highest peaks of the Southern Carpathians on the mornings of May 29 and 30. The snowpack significantly decreased in the crest areas of Făgăraș and Bucegi, by up to 15…20 cm. Wind had temporary intensifications of over 70-90 km/h in high areas in the last days of May, isolated over 100-110 km/h on the peaks. Fog was reported in limited areas. The snowpack as of 01.06.2026, at 15:00: 90 cm at Omu Peak, patches at Bâlea Lake WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE PERIOD 01.06.2026 at 21:00 - 04.06.2026 at 21:00 The weather will be temporarily unstable and will fluctuate around the thermal norms of the period, with a more pronounced degree of instability tonight, tomorrow, and from the afternoon of June 4. The sky will be variable, with temporary increased cloudiness. In broader areas tonight and tomorrow, and subsequently with local character, rain showers will be reported, accompanied by frequent electrical discharges and wind intensifications that may take on stormy aspects. Rainfall amounts will locally reach 15-25 l/m², in limited areas 30-40 l/m², and isolated over 50-60 l/m², especially in the Southern Carpathians and the Curvature area. The wind will blow weak to moderate, with local intensifications of 45...70 km/h. Maximum temperatures will generally range between 6 and 11 degrees, and minimum temperatures generally between 3 and 7 degrees. mtg.prev.
