Haute-Maurienne — Avalanche Forecast
Danger by Elevation
LAST BULLETIN OF THE SEASON Spontaneous releases: rare, punctual, and superficial releases (pear-shaped) in moist snow after warming. Mainly on N/NE-facing slopes above 2800/3000 m. Size 1 (small). Triggered releases: avalanches under skis in the surface snow that has become humid. When cutting a steep slope, above 2700/2900 m. Size 1.
Snow cover: below average for the season following the recent heatwave. Skiable limit: around 2300/2400 m in the N, 2800/3000 m in the S on gentle slopes. Snow quality: good refreezing, snow mostly hard at dawn. Surface humidification occurs fairly quickly but is limited by the wind (crust). On very steep N-facing slopes in high mountain areas (for example, N face of Petite Ciamarella), some cold snow can be found, worked by W/NW winds.
